FACES (2015)

The first thing I ever got published in fiction – I still like it. I’d read about this thing called ‘prosopagnosia,’ or face blindness, and wrote a thriller about it. Back then, I didn’t have any expectations, so I took my sweet time on this one and it shows. It still holds up.

THE GUEST IN THE STORM / PRIMAL (2017)

These were two stories I wrote and got published in 2017 – both of them seem pretty raw and simple to me now, but they did get published, by Close to the Bone Publishing and Body Parts Magazine respectively. The latter wasn’t a porn thing so much as a horror movie thing. They’re just horror-thriller-suspense tales in the mode of Stephen King or the old, weird horror movies I’d rent at the video store all the time when I was young.

PRIMAL is set in a carnival and features a killer clown character, while GUEST IN THE STORM is more like what I’d do later on, and I still think some of this dialogue and suspense is pretty good. I like these because you’ve got to enjoy what you did early. Can’t turn your back.

BLOOD AND SAND: A CULT LOVE STORY – This was the first real short story I ever had published from 2017. I had written this draft in around 2014-15, about two young people, one pregnant, running through the desert from a cult trying to steal the unborn baby. It got deleted off my computer at the time, and at that time, around mid-2015, I felt pretty despondent about it all. Then I rewrote it and it got accepted by Bards and Sages’ Society of Misfit Stories. Then Bards and Sages announced this year they’d be shutting everything down due to a deluge of AI submissions. So, here’s the full story for free!
